Quick Poast 9/26/13

Getting ready to put up my laptop for the move which should start in a couple of hours. I have tried to keep up a little at night but have been so tired I didn’t make much progress. My next week or so are going to be a mad house it takes a lot longer to unpack than to pack.

Plus an unexpected guest is dropping by for a few days or so. I am guessing it will be a week to ten days before I have time to post again or be very active on here.

It would be impossible for me to catch up on everyone’s post. This morning I am looking at 40 post. So as much as I hate to I will not be able to comment on them. There just aren’t enough hours in the day.

I will read and like each one, that is the best I can do.

See you all in a week or so 🙂

My Blog Days Off 9/6/13

My Wednesday started out like what has become normal for me. I stayed on here until 10:00 AM catching up with as many post as I could before starting my time away. I then spent a couple of hours looking around for towns within a 25 minute drive from the VA I go to. I was tempted to go to Newton and look around when something occurred to me. Location!!.

I like this corner I live on because the Large Grocery store is only about a 5 minute walk away. This place has everything from a florist shop to a customer service portion that even has a full post office in it. There prices are higher on most things than Wallmart so I normally only shop the sales and stock up on some sales items like lean cuisine frozen dinners which I eat a lot of to coffee. When these items are on sale they are a lot cheaper than Wallmart. Across the street from there is the local chain convenience store. I normally only walk there when it gets cold to get a low fat cappuccino. I am flat-out addicted to those in the winter time. Right next to that is a subway this is normally the only fast food I eat because if you get the right sandwich they can be very healthy. This corner also has a McDonald’s where I occasionally go for breakfast. At least a dozen other places I have no need for. Within a five minute driving distance there is one of the large Wallmart’s that stay open 24 hours a day right in the middle of a very large shopping center.

There are three apartment complexes on or close to this corner. I went to one and the rates were about the same but they didn’t have a carport. I need one for two reasons the sun here will kill a paint job even though I have my car detailed twice a year on the outside which includes a very good had wax. It keeps the car cooler in this blazing Kansas sun in the summer time. The big one is hail, we normally have a lot of it in the spring time. I have had hail damage before and after it is repaired the outside of the car is just never the same.

I made a big decision that afternoon and decided to try to stay in this complex. I went offer to the office and talked to Hilary the only one of the girls over there I still like. I asked for a different colored building and the new carpet they are putting in plus one closer to the stores on the corner. I probably wont get the new carpet but the building shouldn’t be a problem. I have to move downstairs anyway so I picked a different floor plan. The one I am currently has a very long living/dinning room that I call the bowling alley. The one I chose is more compartmentalized with a better definition between the rooms. I did look at a studio apt to save 50 bucks a month and they are just to small at 425 sq ft. I just like a lot about this place, all of the residents are very friendly, they are the only place around that offers free wi-fi which I occasionally have to use when I get close to my 10 GB data cap and the big one location. Right now the units are 20 bucks a month more that I now pay. I get my carport now for free when I move I get it for half off which is 10 bucks a month. So that would amount to a 30 dollar a month raise, too much for now. Besides this place has an unusual release policy. They only tell you what your rate will be 15 days before your lease is up and your price can never go down. If all the units around me were going for 30 dollars less I couldn’t get that price. I will just have to get as ready as I can and watch the rates, like playing the stock market. The rest of this day I spent catching up on some sleep and just vegging out on the boob tube.

The next day I started making a bunch of list of things I need to do to prepare to move. I found a maintenance man who is willing to repaint my place for 100 bucks. I need to talk to Him today and get Him in here as quick as I can. I found my old list from my last move and need to drive over on the other side of town and set up another move with some additions to my list and a few deletions. I have another dozen or so things I need to do but they aren’t in my immediate category. I will be very busy for the next two weeks and will try to keep up with everyone. If I fall behind I wont post until I catchup. Just know I will get to your post eventually my priority has to shift away from this blog for the next couple of weeks.

Still dealing with that load of crap that got dumped on me last week. I will fix it but it will take some time.

Sorry about the length of this thing.

Kindness and Karma

I believe in Karma in the sense of the here and now. My belief has nothing to do with the afterlife, an area I choose not to discuss.

Every day I go out of my way to do at least one-act of random kindness to a total stranger. I always hold the door open for all people young or old, always smile at people in passing and most smile back. Many small things bring me pleasure like smiling or saying high to a small child, or an adult it doesn’t matter.

This morning was a great example. I normally go to Wall Mart to purchase things that I can get cheaper that the major chain grocery store that I can walk to. I usually go between 3 and 4 in the morning when they are not crowed and I don’t have to wait in the long lines at the register. I walked in the door and there was a teenage girl struggling to get a shopping basket free that was wedged into another one. I said mam the ones next to it don’t look like they are stuck why don’t you try one of them Her response was “ I am determined to get this damm thing unstuck”. I said well at least let me help you. I then braced myself for what I knew was going to happen. We got the thing unstuck but the pain level shot up in my back about 4 points. She said thank you sir and went about her way. I live with chronic back pain on a daily basis, don’t pity me for this, it just is. When I got home I had to take a pain pill for my back which has some harsh side affects but in the end it was well worth it because I helped her and it made me feel better about myself. I then struck up several one or two-minute conversions with the people who stalk the shelves. They have a very boring job and are usually more than willing to just talk about anything for a couple of minutes.

This is just a couple of examples that happened in one brief outing. I believe you get from society what you give so the next time you are out and about try being kind to a stranger you will be amazed at how good it makes you feel !

Time to Getaway Part 2

My trip to Oklahoma started out in a mini monsoon. It usually takes me about 45 minutes to drive down there, it took almost an hour and a half. My ex Girlfriend is a High priest, that practices the white Wicca belief. Over the years I have studied this and found it very interesting. If you are ever have some spare time search where many Christmas rituals, the Easter bunny and several other Catholic practices really came from you might be surprised.

I was down there about 30 minutes when she started nagging like my ex-wife. She said here moon was in the wrong cycle. I think something else was in the wrong cycle. I put up with this crap for a couple of hours then left. I didn’t want to come back home because I knew I would spend all weekend on this site and not get anything done. I searched for a motel within 30 miles from where I live and found one, at a very good rate in.

IMG_1114 (1280x630)

I don’t have a clue when I arrived. I brought in 3 laptops, my camera and a bag, dropped them on the floor and was asleep within 30 minutes. I would end up staying here from Friday night until late Sunday afternoon. This town is like a lot of towns close to where I live. It has for the most part very small, died and replaced with manufacturing or industrial plants. The sun was out the next morning so I went out to try to get some shots of something. This was all I could find that was even remotely interesting and these are stretching the word interesting.

IMG_1115 (1280x1157)

IMG_1122 (1280x940)

I spent a couple of hours driving around the town just killing time before I went back to the motel to tackle the two laptops I had put off for way to long to fix.

IMG_1140 (1280x950)

I call this multitasking to the max.
The first computer was pretty easy and only took me a couple of hours to put on all the software I mentioned earlier in my post about computer security. This one I charged 50 bucks for so it paid for half of my motel stay. The second one was a freebie for a friend. I put all of the mentioned software on Her computer a couple of years ago. But She never kept it up dated or even used it. She just uses her laptop to play games on. I quit counting after I found over 100 different virus on her computer almost all of the came from the infamous Java. She also had over 1500 invalid registries entries which explained why her computer took so long to boot. This damm computer took me over ten hours to fix.

In the evenings I would just zone out watching the TV until I got sleepy so I did get somewhat relaxed but not what I was looking for.

I didn’t get all I wanted out of this trip but you can’t have everything. I did get those two laptops fixed and out of the way that I have had hanging around for way to long. The rest and relaxation will have to come if my place in the country ever dries out. It has rained again for the last two days so it may be awhile.

Time to Getaway

Those of you who have been with me for a while know that I disappear for a couple of days every month. Normally I go out to my old place by the lake to meditate and just find my inner balance. This time my yard out there is a lake but since I need a couple of days away I am going to Oklahoma for a couple of days to see an old Girl Friend. I really need to fix these two laptops, learn how to use this new camera and get caught up on some long overdue reading. Its still raining here like crazy and will be where I am heading, but I can’t control that.

Just like every time I leave I will catch up when I get back with those who have caught up with me. If you havent I will patienly wait for you to 🙂

Quick Post # 3

Only two people showed any interest at all in my post about Computer Security the other day, but that’s OK I still plan on doing the finial part one of these days. I am just putting the information out there and feel better for doing it. It did get me two laptops to work on through my email contacts, that will keep me busy for a while.

It has either rained here or been cloudy for the better part of two weeks with rain and clouds forecast for the next seven days so I haven’t been able to take any pictures. The sun did come out today for a few hours and what was I doing, running errands all morning long. I did pickup a Nikon Coolpix on sale for 100 bucks to replace that piece of crap camera on my phone. I am missing  to many good shots because I don’t bring my big camera with me. I can just put this one in the glove box after I learn how to use it. Yes I know all of you iPhone lovers have one of the better phone cameras out their, especially the iPhone 4. But the best one now belongs to the The new Nokia windows phone. 🙂

Time to Unload the Old Brain Part 1

I read a post a couple of days ago from some one I follow titled we’re all mad here by melissa nacinovich she had several rants and raves along with some very good stuff. It got me to thinking the reason I started this blog was to get things off my chest. Its like once I write them down it opens up a few brain cells for some more stuff to come in. I realized I wasn’t being true to my self. I was trying to copy the style of different people mix pictures with words write better and the list goes on. I still will but expect to see more of these rants in the future. I guess I could best describe my blog direction now like a combination pizza.

Like most of these I have no idea where this is headed, I guess we will find out.
A couple of days ago started like any other normal day for me, after my first breakfast I headed out the door for my morning 3 mile walk. I had gone a few steps and a bird decided to unload his breakfast right on top of my head. For some reason this has happened many times in my life but that day I should have took it for a sign of things to come.
I had my monthly appointment with Physical Therapy that morning and showed up early as always. We were talking about something and the topic of the steps leading up to my second floor apartment came up. She proceeded to start to read me the riot act about renting a place with steps because of my back problem. Now most Doctor stuff I let go in one ear and come out the other. When it comes to my back I pay very close attention because there is no cure the only thing that will make the pain better is to not use it or a lot of exercisers to strengthen my back muscles. I do both depending on how I feel. She then said she had warned me about this before I had moved. I jumped up from the table and call her a big ass liar with a whole lot of obscenities mixed in I was so upset. I told her to look in her notes and sure enough I was right and she was wrong. She then suggest I move to a down stairs apartment. I went off on her again and asked her if she had the 2 grand it would cost me to break my lease, have the place painted and hire the movers. She then suggested I get a note from my regular Doctor about the steps, this seemed reasonable to me so I started to get up when I felt a tap on my shoulder, out of learned reflex I jumped up turned around and was prepared to face my enemy. I faced a Wichita city cop.                   Apparently one of my out burst had caused her collages to call security. The VA doesn’t used rent a cops for security they use the real ones.
So off we went to His office, I have been there before for my out burst so I wasn’t to concerned. They put you in one of their holding cells for 30 minutes like a kid in time out to make sure you are ready to play nice then they let you go.
I then started my 2 hour quest going from Doctor to different departments only to find out the only way the VA was going to give me a note about the steps was if I applied for a permanent profile that has to go before a panel of 5 Orthopedic Surgeons and would take up to 2 years to complete at which time I could apply for SS disability. I told them nicely this time, to forget it I didn’t want their disability just a frigging note. One last thing about the VA as a patient you cant sue the Doctors for malpractice or anything just like the military Doctors, but outside agencies can that is why they are so hesitant about putting their names on any thing that goes out of the system.
This will have to be part one my brain is tired and it is getting to long.
